A photograph of the National Arts Centre in downtown Ottawa

If you could look down on the National Arts Centre (NAC) from above, you would see a grouping of hexagonal-shaped buildings. The hexagon theme can be found throughout the Centre, down to the custom-made patio stones on the terrace.

At over one million square feet, the NAC is one of the largest performing arts facilities in the world. It is also unique as the only multidisciplinary, bilingual performing arts centre in North America.

Opened in 1969, the NAC is the possessor of two organs built by the famous Flentrop Orgelbouw company of the Netherlands. The Dutch–Canadian community spent 25 years raising the funds necessary to purchase the organs, bought in appreciation of the role played by Canadian troops in the liberation of the Netherlands in 1945.

Have you ever attended an unforgettable performance at the NAC? Tell us about it.
