New Edinburgh Park offers a beautiful setting to enjoy the Rideau River. And the Crichton Cultural Community Centre is working to make it even more engaging. Every August, the community centre organizes the Lumière Festival, where local residents are invited to the park for a magical evening of music, dancing, costumed characters and, of course, the light of hundreds of lanterns – many of them homemade.

In nearby Stanley Park, the Ottawa Sculpture Trail unveiled “Far Shore” in June 2008. The steel sculpture by Saskatchewan artist Douglas Bentham was selected by the community from the Canada Council's Art Bank. The goal of the Ottawa Sculpture Trail is to create the longest urban sculpture trail in North America, stretching from Rideau Falls to Hog's Back.

Ottawa's many parks and green spaces are treasured gathering places where neighbours have a chance to connect and enjoy nature and their community. What's your favourite Ottawa park?
